Starting your journey as a foster carer (JOURNcroydon)


Description
[This course will take you about 45 mins to complete.] Supports learning for Training Support and Development Standards (TSDS) 1, 2, 4 and 7.

This course is designed for those who have been approved as foster carers and are embarking on their new journey in this role. You will have gone through rigorous assessments over many months but you still have a lot to learn and it is likely that you will have a lot of questions about the next stage of the journey. This course aims to cover all the main areas that you need to know about when starting to work as a foster carer.

In the course, you will learn:
- Who is on the team you will be working with and how to work efficiently with them.
- The importance of teamwork. How to work effectively and communicate well with your SSW and other groups involved in your foster child’s life, such as their school and the NHS.
- Key events during your time as a foster carer, including meetings, home visits, supervision meetings and reviews.
- About annual reviews and your personal development plan (PDP).
- Potential implications for you. This includes the positive impact of being a foster carer, as well as how it might affect you and your family, and what support is available.
